What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a hands-on, whole-body approach to diagnosis and treatment. It looks at how your bones, muscles, joints, and connective tissues work together - and what happens when something in that system isn't quite right.
It's built on the idea that the body functions best when everything is balanced and working in harmony. And it recognises that pain and dysfunction are rarely just physical. Stress, sleep, lifestyle, and psychological factors all play a role in how we feel and how we recover.
Osteopaths in the UK are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and are required to complete accredited training and ongoing professional development. At Happy Movement, treatment is always evidence-based, consent-led, and tailored to you.
What can osteopathy help with?
Osteopathy can help with a wide range of conditions. Some of the most common presentations we see:
Osteopathy is suitable for people of all ages. If you're not sure whether it's right for your particular situation, just get in touch and we'll be honest with you about whether we think it can help.
What does treatment involve?
Treatment is always adapted to you. Depending on what you need, it might include hands-on work such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, and assisted stretching. It might also involve movement-based therapy, exercise prescription, and guidance on posture or day-to-day habits.
At Happy Movement, we bring in Pilates and strength-based approaches where they're useful, and in some cases medical acupuncture may be appropriate. We explain everything as we go and you're always in control. If something doesn't feel right, say so.
Some people feel a little tender after treatment. This is normal and usually settles within 24 to 48 hours.
What happens at a consultation?
We'll ask about your symptoms, your general health, your lifestyle, and anything relevant to your medical history. We want the full picture before we do anything else.
We'll look at how you move and assess for any areas of tightness, restriction, or imbalance. This might include orthopaedic tests and postural observation.
We'll explain what we've found in plain language, talk through what we think is going on, and agree on a treatment plan with you. Nothing happens without your understanding and consent.
You'll leave with a clear plan — whether that's exercises, movement advice, posture guidance, or just a better understanding of what's going on. We'll tell you honestly how many sessions we think you need and why.
Is osteopathy safe?
Yes. Osteopathy is a regulated healthcare profession in the UK. All osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), which sets standards for training, conduct, and continuing development.
If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or have any concerns before your appointment, please let us know in advance. We'll always work with your wider healthcare team where relevant, and we'll always be transparent about what we think treatment can and can't do for you.
You are always part of the decision-making process here. Ask as many questions as you need. If something doesn't feel right, tell us. The best outcomes come from working together, and that starts with you feeling informed and in control.
